Bike Cops. Freind or Foe?

#1 Unread post by TKDean »

I was riding down the street and a pair of bike cops made a right turn in to the lane next to me. We stopped at a red light and i looked over at them and nodded like i do to all bikers but all they did was give me this dirty look like they wanted to pull me over. This is int the first time either. ive ridden by bike cops before and have never gotten response. So my question is do you wave or nod at bike cops.

By me I waved at another biker not realizing he was a police officer and he waved back at me. Although it was a very quick and official wave :D

I've only met one police cop. And he was super cool. It was when we were trying to shoot a commercial for a school project. And we decided to make a commercial about our film school. We used a rider and had her do tricks.

She was poppin wheelies, Fishtailing, and riding on the handle bars. And the street we did it on was near a small quite neighborhood. So long story short. They didn't like the noise and the fact that seeing someone popping wheelies here and there with a camera. Looks like a few punks having fun.

When the cop came, it was a cycle cop. He asked what we were doing here, and we explained to him everything. And he was like that's cool. But told us to just tone it down a little. And stayed and watched for a few minutes. After that our Talent came over on her bike and talked to the cop. And he was super nice. She even invited him to join them at their Stake n' Shake get togethers. Then after that she even challenged him to a RACE! HAHAH. (what guts!) but the cop was super cool and said, no, he'll get in trouble. AHAHA.

So I like Cops on Bikes. And I'll wave to them and every other motorcyclist I see on the street....when i can actually start riding...

I've had bike cops out here wave at me on my Ducati, but only when they are stopped. They don't do the "biker wave" while riding. Probably against policy.

I don't think that you could call them "friend" or "foe". They're just doing what they're paid to do. Remain within the law and you'll be fine. Break the law, they're just doing their job.

Most of the motocops out here are very nice and will even initiate the wave as they pass :)

Most of the ones I've met are great people. I ride with a few and teach with a few and they can provide a very interesting perspective. However, I've met more than my fair share of jerk bike cops. One even told me that since I didn't have near his level of train, that I wasn't a real rider. :frusty:
