I just spent 10 minutes wondering why a 2 stroke should be so much more powerful than an equivalent-displacement 4 stroke engine.
I couldn't figure it out. Nothing seemed that different. I was thinking about valving, exhaust, fuel mixtures, etc. I was going nuts. I was about to post here asking, and then I wrote the "4" in 4 stroke and realized what the answer was.
That's my story for the evening. Goodnight

Hmm, i still don't know what a stroke is can someone please, in easy terms tell me what is the difference between cc and strokes?jonnythan wrote:I just spent 10 minutes wondering why a 2 stroke should be so much more powerful than an equivalent-displacement 4 stroke engine.

We have posted links to 'encyclopedia' sites, google, pages on specifically two-stroke bikes with attached info on
1. displacement
2. power figures
as well as lists of bikes that are definitley four-stroke powered. What more do you want?
My Game is over. Obviously two-stroke bikes make crappy learner bikes. Why would a learner want a bike best described as a 'track day special' put out 55bhp at 10k RPM only weighing 140kg?
Learn the terms, read some info, and ask an intelligent question.

Liar, that 500 made like 170 some hp. But it was in a narrow band and a scary light chassis.Wrider wrote:Just the other day in school we were going over two strokes... In 1991, Honda made a 500cc Parallel Twin 2-Stroke race bike. The racers who rode it were actually scared of it. Why? Over 300 HP. Even the Hayabusa, at 1349 ccs (2008 model) makes a claimed 198 HP, because it's a 4-Stroke... That's the difference... lol

Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

The reason is that a 2-stroke engine has a detonation every rotation of the crankshaft. 4-stroke engines have detonations every *other* rotation of the crankshaft. Hence a 2-stroke engine of similar displacement will produce more power.xornr89 wrote:Hmm, i still don't know what a stroke is can someone please, in easy terms tell me what is the difference between cc and strokes?jonnythan wrote:I just spent 10 minutes wondering why a 2 stroke should be so much more powerful than an equivalent-displacement 4 stroke engine.
