mechanics class?

hey guys n gals

sorry i dissipeared for a bit, school, work, summer time ridin !
anyway im back and i think i really should learn more about my bike. ive done some really basic electrical work with it, and thats about it.

id like to take a motorcycle mechanics course, but i dont know where to start. i was the one in highschool who geeked out with rock n roll and computers as opposed to mechanics.

anyone know any good books? places to take classes? (im based out of calgary, alberta), tips?

Here's Dan's Motorcycle Course which has a ton of solid information on it.

Other than that I don't know. I'm in the same boat though. Geeked out in high school with computers, video games, and classic rock and never touched an engine except to check oil and pretend I knew what I was doing when my car would break down lol.

Not sure about where you are. But in Colo ABATE offers a basic mech. class.

How far do you want to take this?

NAIT Fairview offers and 8 month intensive training course known as Pre-employment motorcycle mechanics. Where you'll learn everything from basic machining skills to rebuilding a 4 stroke engine to changing a tire to electrical trouble shooting. When you're done you can challenge the first year apprenticeship exam.

Me... I came out of school the same way you did (I live in Edmonton btw). And ended up heading to school for a BArt with a psych major. After 3 years I ended up in Fairview for the class and loved the class (Fairview sucks!). I've enjoyed it ever since.

If you want to know more gimmie a shout, otherwise it's possible I might be able to hook you up with a couple of friends from class in the Calgary area... but they'd have to charge you for their time.

i would assume sait would have the same kind of course as nait. i wouldntmind takin a class like that, but i work in the day times, but possibly they would have a night course.

re frieds in the calgary area, hell, if the price is right i wouldnt mind learning from them. i wouldnt mind payin for it either really.

i will look into both !
