When would be the best time to purchase a 2007 motorcycle?

#1 Unread post by gregggyf »

Good afternoon,

I am new to this site, so I am sure questions like this have been asked many times before.

I am thinking of purchasing a new motorcycle and I was wondering (pricewise) when would it be the most advantageous time (month/week in the month) to go to the dealership?

Thank you very much.

Greg

It really depends on dealer. Many dealers will want to clear out showroom this time of year to make way for snowmobiles and ATVs. Others will need room for 2008 models. Most would rather sell before end of year and inventory tax. You can find some great deals on last years models that are still new.

A lot of dealers around here drop their prices considerably during the time around the local MotorCycle Show. If I could swing my financing, I could pick up the bike of my dreams for $3,000 - 4,000 less than list...

Probably around the time the '08's hit the floor. As stated, even if it's the exact same bike with a different color, the price of the '07 will drop a decent amount.

Place I know of will drop the price of say, a '07 CBR 600RR by $2000 the day the '08's hit the ground.
2000 Kawasaki Ninja EX500R (Sold)
2006 Suzuki SV650S (Stolen 4/08, recovered 12/08, sold 3/09)
2004 Suzuki SV650S (Sold)

The best time to buy an '07 is usually when the following two things have hit the ground :

1. The '08 models.

2. Snow.*

*If you live in a mild climate, substitute cold, wet weather for snow.

I agree.

I was at a dealership in late August looking at Suzuki C50s, and the dealer still had a 2006 C90 in the showroom. They were only asking $8000. I'm sure there was some room to negotiate since the salesman mentioned the '08s would be coming out soon.

I actually wasn't trying to be funny. If the model you want isn't the most popular, chances are you can find a leftover. The 2009 will be out in Sept next year. AS soon as they are out, a 2007 leftover will be a bargain.
