Yet another "which bike" thread...

#1 Unread post by MikeLadner »

Up front, let me say... sorry.

I currently ride an 04 Vegas. I am wanting to add a sport touring bike to the mix, and have narrowed it down to a Honda 599 or 919.

I'm trying to figure out which bike would be best dimension wise.

I've only seen a 599 in person once, in passing, didn't get to try it or sit on it. I've sat on a 919 and it's pretty comfortable all in all. As most of you know they won't be importing 599's this year, and it's pretty hard to find anyone selling a used one.

Local shop has an 06 "old new stock" 919, which I haven't talked price with yet.

I don't think the 599 is "smaller enough" to be uncomfortable, but do I really need the extra CC's?
I think I would be better suited with the 599, but not being able to find one to try out or even sit on, maybe the 919 is the best choice, vs. buying on eBay or somewhere without even knowing if the bike is comfortable for me.
I'm 6' 210 lbs... So the question is... which do you guys prefer?
Any input appreciated.
Thanks

I doubt you would beat yourself up too much if you got the 919. 8)

Extra cc's can be fun.

But, I would never buy a bike I haven't at least sat on.

Plus you ride a big cruiser, 100 CI = 1643 ccs. I think you can handle the additional power of the 919 on a sportbike without problems.
So yeah, I vote the 919!

Let me say, I like Hondas. Haven't ridden the 919, but there is talk to a new 1000cc Hornet in the works. Looks something like...

To wait or not. Don't know. How about the FZ1? You can put hard luggage on it too.

Went to the shop today to talk to the people about the new 06 919.

They will barely budge off the price. The lowest I could get them to was $8,815 after taxes.

I've never bought a bike from a dealer before, but, in general, how much lower than MSRP do shops usually sell bikes for?

Bike lists for $8,399 and the lowest he would go before taxes for $7,685. Doesn't seem like a reat deal for a 2 year old bike to me, but what do I know? That's why I'm asking here
Thanks

Oooooooook.

Guy at another local shop calls me on the phone and tell me they have 3 06 599's in stock that they "overlooked" in storage...

So I go and take a look. Before taxes and fees I got it for $6,400.

I like it so far, and I'm real happy with the price.

Just thought I'd share. :D

Awesome! Congrats on the new ride!

Just curios, how much bigger does the 919 feel compared to the 599?

OP, congrats on the 599. Thinking about the 919 replacement, checked Honda UK, http://www.honda.co.uk/motorcycles/ and found the new one. It's called a CB1000R.

Single sided swing arm, rest of specs found here.
