Hi. I have another question. I was doing my usual maintenance and cleaning out the cache.,etc.....bye bye cookies, temp internet files, clean up C and defrag., etc.....
I also clicked to clear out the history of visited websites. Now, I understood that to mean that it would clear out all the things that I have typed into the Google Search Bar as well. However, all the stuff I have typed into there is still there.
How do I get all that to go away?

I'm not familliar with the latest Internet Explorer, but here's how to do it on version 6

From the "Tools" menu, pick "Internet Options"
click on the "Content" tab
In the personal information section, click the "AutoComplete" button
Finally click "Clear Forms"

Thank you. That was what I needed to know. I'm still using IE6. I tried 7 but did not care for it.

The Google toolbar is a separate add-on to Internet Explorer and uses its own history and settings.

To clear this, you click the Google logo right next to the search box and then click "Clear Search History."

Nibblet's method will only clear out the information typed into forms on websites (such as the search box at Google.com). While this is a good idea too, it won't clear out the Google Toolbar history.

I don't actually have the Google toolbar. I was referring to what I typed into google.com.

I have it cleared now. Now if I type in the letter "m" or "b" I don't get a long list open up...I can start fresh.

You're wasting your time defragmenting your hard drive. Microsoft's NTFS file system, standard on their operating systems since Windows 2000, is fragmentation resistant.

Clearing out your cache and deleting cookies are also wastes of time for the average user. Do you have a specific reason for doing this? I would think your time would be better spent running Spybot - Search and Destroy.

I suppose I got into the habit from my old system. It ran much better after I cleared everythng out and ran the maintenance programs.
I have been using Ad-Aware. Do I need both? I had Spybot before I reformatted....but didn't bother to download it again.

I disagree.

NTFS is not prone to incredible fragmentation like FAT/FAT32, but it still benefits from occasional defragging.

I did not know that. I will get it again then. Do they both find different things and I should keep both or is Spybot sufficient?

In my experience, Ad-Aware doesn't do anything for you that Spybot doesn't already do. I used to use both but currently use only Spybot.

Yeah thats what I found too, although if you read some of the spybot help files, he recommends you get spyware blaster too (this one is a preventative, not a scanning and removal tool)

Between the 2, I just don't seem to get any issues at all anymore

I use BitDefender Internet Security and Webroot Spy Sweeper on my system along with CCleaner. While using the 3 I haven't had anything malicious occur on my WinXP system. In fact I don't experience the usual 3 - 9 month system slow down due to bloat or bad registry files.

Of course I use Firefox with AdBlock Plus and NoScript for my browsing needs.

I now have Firefox. After hearing so many good things about it, I downloaded it.
Now everything is slow.
Anyone know why?

I lost some of things on my toolbar that I liked and am having some difficulty finding some of things I used fairly frequently.

Also...if I find something I want to save....it wants to save everything to my desktop?????
I don't want things to get saved to my desktop. I want them in the folders I want them. Sigh....
I guess it will take some exploring around to figure out how to fine tune it.

The slowness though.....that has to be remedied.....IE6 at least had a bit of quickness for opening outlook or web pages.
