I don't want things to get saved to my desktop. I want them in the folders I want them. Sigh....
I guess it will take some exploring around to figure out how to fine tune it.

The slowness though.....that has to be remedied.....IE6 at least had a bit of quickness for opening outlook or web pages.

If you go to options, you can choose whether to save everything to a particular folder or to ask you where to save each file.

I don't know why everything would be "slower."

I agree I have no idea why everything would be slower, I have used Firefox on may peoples computer to get around the constraints of explorer and all the rest and have had no problems. I do not use Firefox as my standard internet connection but use it as a back up for sites that my firewall seems to have problems with. Now what that means to me is I am by passing some of the protections inherit to other browsers so I only use it as a back up. Let us know when you figure out the slowness so I can help others if you do not mind.

Just for the record I am an IT manager so I am always looking for solutions.

I use FireFox 2.0.0.9, the latest version.

Go to Tools then Options. In the Main area there is an option to either ask where to save or have it always save to desktop. Then go play with the Content, Privacy, Security and Advance areas to fine tune the browser.

There are also Addons option in the Tools menu. I would advise you to get AdBlock Plus, and maybe FasterFox. FasterFox can sometimes slow some websites that don't allow its method of speeding things up.

I stated everything without trying to complicate things so feel free to ask around as I'm sure many here use FF. You can always upgrade to IE7 from IE6 since it is more secure. I never noticed these things since I have a fortress going on with my PC. :mrgreen:

Thanks for the info.....I now have it set so it asks me where I want to save it.

I'll look into the other stuff later.

Hi again.

I just installed a new program on my computer, but due to the now limited amount of RAM....the computer is slow.
So-o-o-o, I was removing a few programs that don't really need to be on the system.
I have a question about Java.
In the list of programs in the add/remove window it shows Java runtime 5 and a Java runtime update 5.1...or Java environment something or other...
There is also Java 6 and Java update 6.1

Do I need to have both of those Java's in there or would it be safe to remove the Java 5 components.

I can't spare the cash to buy more RAM right now.

no....the computer has oodles of hard drive space. But is only has 512 of RAM.

Thanks for the info....I will get rid of the Java and just get the latest one.

no....the computer has oodles of hard drive space. But is only has 512 of RAM.

It's always a good idea to uninstall unused programs, but simply having a program installed doesn't affect the amount of free RAM.

I did a whole maintenance on the computer. Disc clean, defrag, virus scan, registry scan., etc., etc.,

The computer is running good again. :mrgreen:

I use

ccleaner to keep my computer free of "crap" and remove bad registry problems (easier than going through the registry myself and for someone that hasnt messed with the registry before I suggest ccleaner anyways). It also cleans out your temp folder etc etc as well as making it easier to uninstall programs.

avg anti virus cause its free for my anti virus proggy

superantispyware for my spareware proggy cause its free :D

and O&O degrag to keep my computer defragged.
