Almost NO dealers will allow a test ride of ANYTHING. Except on special open house days, etc. Especially a used bike. Don't be surprised if they laugh at you.

You don't get demo bikes in MD? I've been offered test rides (not even asked for them) on a Buell XB12S in Canada, a CBR600, GSX-R 750 Kawi ER6-f (Ninja 650) in the UK.

They were all demo bikes, and had to be kept under 1000 km or else the price dropped considerably. A demo bike (like the truth) is out there!

Buy a compression tester and throw a cylinder(s) test on it. Wet and dry. If they won't let you don't buy it. Its something. If its from a dealer it should come with some warranty but once you buy it its darn near impossible to get your money back if you don't like it.

A test ride even a short one to test brakes,acceleration and shifting is in order. Or have someone you know who rides ride it for you. I've done that plenty of times for various first time rider friends. And like someone else said refer to KBB and NADA info too. I'm not against used stuff and there are good deals out there that do pan out. Unfortunately there are shaftings galore too.

In the US, demo rides at most dealers are hard to come by. Liability and potential injury, as well as potential damage to a bike are all factors. Heck we've all seen the videos of dolts picking up their brand new machines and not making it out of the parking lot without incident.

I've never had a dealer that wouldn't let me test drive a used bike. (One Ducati dealer even let me keep a BMW for weekend)

I have seen some dealers not allow test rides on a new bike only on their DEMO and not all models. (they still don't have a HP2 demo)

Of course you need MC license and your own helmet.

Yeah, they do not do test drives up here either. I guess if some did it, then they will all follow suit??

And if they don't the rest won't? I can see up here how it would work. Not many shops and I know if one did it then others would just because I would guess, the competition factor would kick in. But, that's just my guess....

I know the shop owners I have spoken to say it's not worth it.....anywho, James, et us know what you finally end up doing, okay?
