Hayabusa transmissions

#1 Unread post by Johnj »

Has anyone here heard of a transmission problem on Hayabusas? A guy at work says that they are jumping out of gear or something. Anybody?

Never heard of that one about a busa, but then not many people have busa's. I seem to recall jumping out of gear being a known issue on the FJR1300. You may get some decent fault finding advice for doing a search on the fjr.
You'd have to remember though the 2 bikes will have completely different trannies, but it might get you started

What year is the bike? And how many miles are on it? What kind of shifting has he been doing? What kind of riding has he been doing?
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I know a few Hayabusa owners and haven't heard anything bad about the transmission. Sounds like this one has been abused.

Too many Busa's are bought by squids who dont change gear properly.
The main reason bikes jump out of gear is bad gear changes.
If it isn't fully into gear when clutch is dumped and throttle opened the torque produced by a Busa motor will force gear dogs apart. (even at relatively low road speeds/engine rpm)
This leads to bent shift forks and the problem gets compounded over time
