trying to revive 2003 vulcan 500 ltd

#1 Unread post by rabidrao »

Hi all! I have a 2003 Kawasaki Vulcan 500 Ltd with about 2500 miles. It's been unused for almost 2 years... (long story). Now I finally have time to get it back in running condition and I want to try and do it without going to the dealer...
So, the first thing I did was get a new battery. Filled up electrolyte, charged overnight, and it's ready. Then I realized that I was far from ready.. :(
I thought the only other thing to do would be to clean out the fuel tank and clean the chain. But I'm unable to even pull out the tank. I bought a manual, but it didn't help much. Can anyone help me by telling me:
1. Steps to pull out tank.
2. How to clean it?
3. Anything else I need to do after the 2 year rest for the bike?

Thanks!!!

ok, finally got the fuel tank off... almost.
The fuel tube is not coming of the thingy that says "on off reserve" ... forget what it's called. :P
Anyway, assuming I figure out how to loosen that tube, next step would be cleaning the tank..

Ok.. how? Just use some gas and clean out the inside or something more?

all right... so I went online and hunted.
found a bunch of stuff, but nothing that seemed basic. Most of the items are for rust removal and then cleaning.. like Kreem. However, my tank isn't rusted. I just want to clean out that greyish sludge that's formed on the insides of the tank. Can I use baking soda and water to clean that stuff out?

Thanks!
