Charleston Fire Dept. Captain Richard Waring helps rescue Benjamin Fischer from the pluff mud beneath the James Island Connector after a crash that sent him off the bridge with his motorcycle Saturday May 5, 2007. Fischer told rescuers he was not seriously hurt. The drop was estimated at over sixty feet.

Pluff mud is a lowcountry term to describe the dark soft soil in the marshes. Pluff mud typically has a distinct odor that is the result of some combination of bacteria, water content and climate.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Holy cow!! 60 feet? from an accident? that's insane. I've done 50 feet into deep water and felt like I dropped for 1 minute. It also didn't feel very much water. xD

I bet he had some time to think over what was happening in the 60 feet.

The guy is lucky! This mud saved his life :)

But his mimics :ninja: made me laugh! :lol:

You do learn new things here, I never heard of pluff mud and man it looks like the stuff from some nuclear test site or worse yet a sewage plant over run. Glad to hear he is ok, I bet he now likes pluff mud.

Enlighten an oldeworlde Briton on this point. Presumably it has something to do with the roadway, above?

I think connector is like an on ramp, connects the road your on to the highway/freeway youre going onto.

It could also be a road or bridge that connects two parts of the same town separated by a body of water or a rail yard etc...
