Bear Butte SD Hillclimb

#1 Unread post by slimcolo »

Does anyone have any information on the bike that was rode to the top of Bear Butte, South Dakota. This was attempted by Jack Hoel and bill Erickson on 10 May 1963. Jack made it up and down. How is still unknown!

The bike is a stepthrough trail bike (most likely a Omaha T-50 or T-55) However where bike is now located (Sturgis Motorcycle Museum) they seem to believe it is an 80. Did Yamaha ever build a stepthrough w/80cc motor? (and I didn't get pics. in Aug.) They also say bike was provided by Yamaha, but are not sure if company or dealer. It is quite possible that this bike may have an 80cc motor as other mods were done for this climb.

Any info about this climb or the bike is much appreciated.

Not the same. Further research has revealed that the bike used in Hill Climb was,nt a YG1 but an earlier Omaha Yamaha 50 with a 80cc (YG1) motor crammed into the frame.
