Power,

Ive had alot of people say to me not to get the gixxer 750 as my first large bike, but ive got it now and im so happy with my decision. However i think the busa is abit of a suicide mission and thats coming from me lol.

If you want it that bad then go for it, the insurance will be as much as the bike and the consequences may be severe but riding the bike makes up for all of that as long as you ride it sensibly, safely and respect it for the first few months while you get used to it.

Saying that, i still think you should look at something abit smaller, a 600cc sportsbike would give you the speed and much more fun in the corners, plus the weight will be alot less and easier to manage on a daily basis.

But its up to you what you do with your money and life, just take care on wotever you decide to get :) .

Ride safe,

Jake.

Guy I work with bought the busa as a first bike. Guess how many times of the year he actually rides it? bout 4 and it has to be 90 out before he rides it because he is SCARED AS HELL to ride the thing. Gee I wonder why he is so scared to ride it....

*edit

btw the guy is 25 yrs old. I am 29 (well ok I will be next week) and I ride a 650cc cruiser. Want to upgrade to a Ducati MS 1100 but until I can pay cash not gonna happen.

Power I know how you feel, I am not into sport bikes but stats don't lie. If you buy this bike you are getting a one way ticket to the afterlife. Are there inexperienced people who bough this bike and still are among us to survive.. I bet there are.. but are there more who are not here among us?
You can only decide what you are going to buy but think of this you are 18 you have 40 or 50 more years of riding left(give or take a little) why jeapordize you life? Instead buy a smaller bike and in a few years trade up. There is always a market for smaller begginers bikes.
I just went through this with my brother-in-law he wanted a bigger sport bike, i talked to him about it and did the same speal. He came to me for advice as I am the few people he knows with a bike and I have been riding since I was seven(i will be 28 in 2 weeks) There has been situations on the road that the DMV will not cover or the MSF but if you have the road experience and are able to safely control your bike you have a greater chance of survival.

Back to my brother in law he just graduated from high school and is in the process of buying a bike (dealer is letting him do layaway) he bought a ninja 250. We went to a bunch of dealers, I wanted to help guide him through this and we went to the dealership I bought my v star and the salesman I had which i really liked had left so this salesman starts telling my brother in law to buy atleast a 600cc sportbike. The only experice my brother in law has on a bike is riding a 49cc scooter.

I see you have said you have experience riding but how much did you learn? I think you should start off with a smaller bike hone your skills and then trade up. Look at the resale prices on some bikes the ninja 250 does not deprciate I have seen 5 year old 250's for 800-1000 less than new. Also the cheapest insurance quote my brother in law had on his ninja 250 was $1400 a year and that is basic coverage. If you get a loan you have to have full coverage... Full coverage quotes for the ninja for him was arouns 3k a year which is the replacement cost for a new bike...

I am being sincere here I am talking to you the way I talk to my students (I am a school teacher and I get alot of students asking me for advice since I am one of two teachers in the building who ride a motorcycle. Listen to those with more experiences even some maybe a little rude getting their point across but hopefully it is for your benefit

Take our advice on this start out slow your kids will thank you...

Did anyone else hear something different?

Anyway- to add insult to injury- I agree with everyone else. Don't get this bike. Why?

The busa is a cumbersome bike at slower speeds and it's huge and awkward. Chances of a newb dropping it at slow speeds are high as are the price of new plastics.

This bike can burn out all the way through 3rd gear and wheelie up to 150 mph. It's expensive to buy, expensive to insure, and expensive to operate.

You want power? Ok, I can respect that. Sounds American enough for me. Tell me though, where are you going to be able to use that power? Even on a track you'll be hard pressed to truly string it out. The rest of the time when you're not on a track... well... it's wasted? Like spending your hard earned money on wasted power?

Anyway- you'll decide what you'll decide. If you do get this bike make sure your health insurance is paid up and you get quality gear.

Thanks guys.

I'm looking at a Kawasaki Ninja 250R as a first bike now.

I know you guys know your subject matter and you're right. I'm rationalizing the 250 to myself with the thought of honing my riding skills and financing a portion of the bike to build up a credit score (for something bigger later on). Then later moving on to something like a Gixxer 750 or a CBR600RR, then maybe, just maybe a Busa.

I'll be turning 18 at the end of April, and I can't wait. :bliss:

I'm sorry- in reviewing another thread I realize that someone else had said you had professional training. Other than that- you've said that you've been riding for two years, you've already had a crash, and you have your bike restricted.

However, I never recommended that power get a busa.

Either you are an expert troll, or you are an intelligent fellow who knows hes making a bad decision by getting a 1300cc bike, but still wants one regardless. If its the first option, I salute you; you drew the whole forum out to play. If its the second choice, then I'm glad you've started thinking about the Ninja 250.
