Hmmmm, we use the metric system here (bout time you Americans caught up with the rest of the world on that), and I would say that that is in kph not mph, largely due to the point that in order for that to be mph he would be doing near enough to about 282kph and that just doesnt look any where need that kind of speed to me IMHO of course

Whoever posted the vid, claims it is mph.

It's the Isle of Man in TT week so the rider could be from just about anywhere, but he writes in fairly fluent, relaxed English. Sounds British to me - which probably means the bike was bought on the British market and would therefore have an mph speedo.

In my experience video shots from on-board cams often seem slower than they really are. Check out the slow-speed stuff right at the beginning, He slows to 30 ish. That looks like 30 mph to me.

that's not mph...look at the guy he passes at 1min 20 sec...seemingly at 146 mph...that other guy would be doing well over 100 mph...and I'm telling you...you just don't sit up like that at 120-30 mph...If you still don't agree..go out do 130...then sit straight up....

it'd be nice to know what kinda bike. personally, i can see how it does not look like it's mph. but he's in 5th gear and his tachometer is reaching the redline at 175. i have an 83 silverwing (650 v-twin) and i can go 80 pretty easy in 5th gear at about 6-7000 rpms. if he's on a liter bike, i can see it being mph.

over here we are taught both metric and imperial.

Even though metric is well cemented in our lives, you still will need a level of understanding of imperial, primarily to deal with you lot of course (USA) and the British.

I am building a 28 ford hotrod, and I have used imperial for all of it so far.

The second bike he overtakes is doing less than 100. The guy with the camera on board drops to 100 himself before the overtake and even at that speed he is still catching him up. I can sit up on both my bikes at that speed in mph. (Depends on the bike, of course)

The bike with the camera is a Gixxer Thou (K5) So 170 mph+ - no problem.


PS A number of years ago the transport authority widened a road near here into a four lane by-pass. They had to build a new bridge at an interesction. When they had it almost finished they realised it wasn't going to reach. Someone had got their sums wrong converting imperial into metric. Ooops! They had to demolish it and start again.
