Harley..Just buying the name?

My on the wave thing - I wave at everyone on two (sometimes three) wheels, and most of the time, they all wave back. Even most of the Harley guys.

Since I got a sportsbike most of the cruiser guys have stopped waving. I'm depressed.

I have never heard one Harley guy saying anything nasty about other bikes. Maybe they only do that with each other. I've heard tons of stories about how mean Harley people are about other bikes, but I see no proof. I go to a bike night every Wednesday - 75% Harley. They all seem cool to me.

They are not my crowd and not my bike, but I think the stories about Harley are greatly exagerated. I think the metric folks seem to have a bigger issue.

You could always get the Honda chromed? Chrome the heck out of that 599... nothing like Yellow and Chrome!

Maybe rake the front end, raise those handle bars, get a huge rear tire, flames on the tank, and don't forget to chrome that powerplant. Hmmmmm, you should probably drop a V-Twin in that puppy while you're at it.

I'd like to point out that just about ANY V-twin that consistently does 90m/h is going to have a hell of a lot of vibration.

If you want to go that fast you should be looking for a standard or sport bike. Possibly a tourer.

My V-Twin lets very little vibration out unless it is very low rpm for the gear. But you're right on the fact that they should be getting a different type of bike. Too many people get lured into getting bikes they really don't want, and not just Harley's. Plenty of people go out and look at bikes that reallly interest them, but end up listening to all those people who say there's no way they'll like it, it's not cool looking, or it's too small displacement etc. I got that a lot buying a SV1000. Everyone said I should get a supersport, but I didn't want one, so I didn't get one.

I wouldn't ever buy a Harley, due to the fact that I don't consider the price of one a good value for a bike, but still consider them a good bike. Yes, you can sell them for a lot easily, but I still couldn't pay that much initially. I think Harley's are cool bikes, and a few will turn my head. I think half of the Harley bashing can really have a lot to do with the owners. Jokes about leaking oil and such. Every Harley I've seen leaking oil, had all new chrome sidecovers and such, all installed by their owners. Maybe someone forgot what a gasket was?

Ditto. Granted I have only been riding for a little more than a month but I have yet to be denied a wave back when I wave at someone. Harley rider, cruiser rider, or sportsbike guy.

I'm sure you're right about the exagerration, I only relate what I've encountered.

By the way, I love your ride. If I'd seen one in person prior to picking up my vmax I might have gone with the zrx. Is it as powerful as the numbers say it is? Sat on one today for the first time ever. Very comfy with the Corbin seat it had.

I'd also like to point out that there are a lot of people who will buy a gsrx, or a cbr, or a yadda yadda for the name only. There will always be a portion of the population that thinks it's more important to have a cool name then to have something of real value. It's sad, but true.

I wave at everyone. It's one of my favorite things about riding. I've never noticed any one group of rider not waving, and the only rude comment I've gotten was about our Rebel, and that was by some guy at a Honda dealer.

Love the Harley's. The husband and I had a big debate when we started riding a few months ago on what bike to get. He wanted a Sportster, I wanted a V Star. He won and we went to the Harley dealership and could not get a soul to wait on us.

One guy came over and we said we wanted this bike (sitting on an 883 Custom) and he said he'd be right back. We watched another customer grab him (who wanted to talk about a more expensive bike) and he never came back. We waited an hour and no one wanted our money. Shame too, we were paying cash.

So now you know why I ride a V Star. Still wouldn't mind a Harley, but I thought if we were going to buy one we should have some experience under our belt and buy a Fat Boy.

Sometimes I wave both arms wildly in the air, and that always gets a return wave (and probably a laugh or two.)
