What's your second bike?

#1 Unread post by matthew5656 »

ok riding season has come up quick for us in Denver and I am getting very, very irritable! My old honda died on me last october so I have no bike to ride until I buy something else. My options are not entirely open because I only have $2,500 to spend and I want something with less than 20,000 miles on the clock. So, anyone have a decent recommendation?

Yah, I've looked at the sv650s but they are hard to find for less than $4k and they're not my favorite. Hmm, I really like the seating position on any of the Honda VFR interceptors, but again I have only found classic 80's models with 20-30k miles. They are pricey rides. I have been a fan of the Honda VTR superhawk/RC51 but, same $$$ issues.

I could always buy a 600cc CBR/GSXR/YZF/ZX6R but I'm not sure buying a used supersport is a great idea....Well, you never know what the motor has really been through from previous owners! I think a standard bike is my best fit because I want to do a bit of touring out west this summer when I find the time/money. I've found quite a few used yamaha FZR's in my price range, but I have never sat on one nor do I know how reliable or expensive they are to maintain. Supersport bike insurance coverage will kill me, so that's another reason I'm not pursuing that route. I don't like the suzi katanas at all, but I will take a clean, suzi bandit 600/1200 no problem! I hear great reviews about the old bandits. I want something that will keep me occupied as far as it's power and happy ergonomics. I rode about 3-4000 miles on my honda cb650 and felt pretty comfortable with it's powerband before the motor blew up.

But hey, sorry for such a long chatter, but does someone have any suggestions? The only cruiser I'd want is the power kind like an expensive VMAX or an older V65 magna...sorry. I'm close minded for cruiser bikes...they are too damn heavy! please help!

Oh yah, I would kill for a Honda 599/919 or better yet, a Yamaha FZ6 or FZ1. So if someone could please loan me another $2,000, I would be happy to pay you back in a years time with no interest. Thanks!

Would you consider an older Ninja 500? It would be fun, goes as fast as you want it, is reliable, and can be bought on the cheap. At the very least, it would be something to ride, and later you could sell it for pretty close to what you paid.
