My first motorbike, any advice ?

#1 Unread post by kkostienko »

Hi,

I have just passed a Driving License Exam for Motorbike. Now it is a big moment for me, I am going to buy my first ever bike Very Happy. Since it is my first bike and I have limited budget, I will buy a used one.

Could you please help me choosing a right bike for unexperienced guy like me? I have red that Suzuki GS500 is a good option because of few factors, such as good quality for price, engine is resistant to damage etc.

Thanks guys for your help, I am sure all of you went through the same pain Smile.

Cheers,

Krzysztof

Those GS500's are very popular as are the Kawasaki 500s.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Always wear a helmet, eye protection, and protective clothing. Never ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Thanks Johnj,

I have heard bed opinion about Suzuki GS500. One of my friend told that they are very hard to control and it is blowing so much that you can not enjoy driving, especially when you go out of the city. Is it true?

I will have a look on the Kawasaki.

Hi there,

Not familiar with the Suzi 500, but the Ninja 500-R (EX-500) does take some punishment from the wind on the highway. Not too bad though. It is a light-weight bike, with little in the way of a fairing. Tuck in a bit (lay on/near tank) to create less of a profile and you'll do better.

Don't let people tell you you need a massive bike for the highway... I have 15k miles on my 500-R, and quite a bit is highway miles. My Vulcan got blown around a lot too.

BTW: If you are still looking, I can't speak too highly of the 500-R. It is a great bike. Easy to work on. Dependable. Comfortable seating position. They've been making it at Kawa for 20-or-so years and the only major change is replacing the rear drum brake with a rear disc. The Suzi might also be a single cylinder? The Kawa is a parallel twin. Very peppy!

Don't think of it as a stop light. Think of it as a chance-to-show-off light.
