so a while back i took of my carbs to clean them, and they looked pretty clean, i understand that the jets may have some small debris in them, but i figure i can take care of that with a fuel additive when i get the carbs back on. so now am just trying to find some gaskets because the current ones are rediculously brittle... ANYway any suggestions and what not are greatly appreciated

Alright! Glad we didn't lose you in the hack-job!

Hey, while you've got the carbs off, you might want to squirt some carb cleaner through those jets and needles. Old gas evaporates, leaving a coat of varnish-like substance on all the surfaces inside the carbs. It wouldn't hurt, and it may keep you from having to pull them again.

well, i have constant velocity carbs... and i heard somewhere that if i was going to take them apart and clean them with carb cleaner then i should make sure that i dont get any of the cleaner on the diaphragms, or what ever makes them constant velocity. so should i have the same concerns if i spray in the carb cleaner without taking apart the carb. i mean should i be concerned that the carb cleaner will ruin the diaphragm?

Good question. Yes, to be safe, you should pull the diaphragms out first. Normally they're really easy to remove - usually just four screws to pull the top plate off the carb, then very carefully lift the diaphragm out. Take care with this, though, that you don't tear the rather fragile membrane part.

dont get any carb cleaner on any rubber parts--take them jets out and boil them in water and get a torch tip cleaner from any welding supply company or NAPA auto parts and run the proper size wire through the jets.as for the gaskets if you cant find some you can use--Permatex HYLOMAR HPF GASKET DRESSING AND FLANGE SEALANT--ITEM #25249.
it is gasoline resistant.do not use silicone sealant it will leak if you do.NAPA didnt have the HYLOMAR here i got it at AUTO ZONE.
