bad for bike?

i am waiting on parts and tools to arrive in the mail to change my sprockets and chain. i have a popping noise that is constant because of a bad sprocket. am i doing any damage to the bike other than to the sprockets and chain by riding around with this problem?

Think about what might if that chain slips off and/or breaks at speed. Think that might damage something (including you)?

uh, thanks?... how about some info on damage to the bike. will i be hurting anything that i am not going to replace anyways?

What he was politely referring to was the fact that if it brakes 1 of 3 things could happen, 1, the chain brakes and wraps around the swing arm and you go into a skid and crash your "O Ring" on the pavement, 2 the chain brakes and it gets caught up in the side case and wipes out the side of your motor and 3, if your really really lucky the chain will feed around the front sprocket without getting caught up and feed it's self out on to the ground,,,,,if your lucky, is that a little more clear as to what he meant???

Because of the chain slipping and catching it's also slowly hurting your motor and hub/axle.
It's under load, then free, then suddenly under load again with a shock factor of probably 4-5 times what the load is... It's kinda like dropping your clutch repeatedly... So yeah, I wouldn't recommend it, and there's always the broken chain possibility too.

I do to, that's why I put Vaseline on both ends,,,in case I get shafted
