hey wuts up everyone. new here. names jim and im from central illinois. i know i will probly be coming back alot here for the next few years finding parts. went and picked up my first motorcycle. a yamaha maxim 400. year i have no idea, did not get any papers with it. thing is with the bike, it was free, but needs alot of work to it. mostly cosmetic work. bikes was wrecked back in 92 and been sittin ever since. so in the months to come i will be needing to find parts for it. is there a way to find out what year it is? i have an idea it might be a 79. but thanks guys and girls, hope to get alot of help here. bye

Get a manual and check the VIN. Most have a chart.

When you start looking for parts and info on repair and maintenance, try using the Garage section. You'll find maintenance and trouble shooting in there. :)
