Same thing with those ST1300s... Lots of torque and lots of HP too... You wouldn't stand a chance of running from those things unless you were a very skilled rider on a literbike or a 600 in a VERY twisty area...
As for Skier, I've ridden that Speed Triple 955i! Holy crap that thing had torque and HP out the wazoo! Had more torque than the Busa I rode, and that's saying something!

That's why I refuse to get into a drag race with my wife -- who rides an SV650 (vs. my 800cc v-twin S50). I know she'll disappear into the distance at any reasonable speed before I chicken out and back off the throttle. Yeah, I'd win in the long haul but she'll embarrass me off the line with that thumper of hers.

And when she's downshifting at the end of the race, that damn thing will backfire like a Howitzer so everyone will see who's in front.

Her 650 is back-firing on decel because it is jetted too lean, from the factory. Re-jet to get it a bit richer and the bike won't back-fire and will run cooler. Most likely one or two numbers higher on the pilot and main jet will do the trick. Iwould imagine there must be a Suzuki Savage forum somewhere that will lead you in the right direction.

Thanks for the tip, Paul246. I'm aware of the fix -- apparently just a matter of grinding down a spacer inside the carb -- but she won't let me touch her bike. I think she kinda likes the attention.

Hey, no problem.

Funny, if I were to look at buying a cruiser again the S40 would be at the top of my list. I just love the simplicity of that bike. The bike delivers everything you really need, too. I guess I'm just in love with big thumpers when it comes right down to it.
