Whatever happend to X 600cc Sportbike Newbie

I remember we had at least 4 or 5 newbies post that they got 600cc super bikes blah blah blah and it's fine. But I don't remember continuing to hear from any of them.

Are any of you guys still around?

I find it worrying when they don't post for months at a time. Sometimes I use some Internet Detective skills to find they are still riding safely but posting elsewhere, other times you never see them post ever again. When someone goes from posting daily to not posting for years, no warning, you really have to wonder.

That's what I'm saying, I'm starting to wonder what if anything happened to these people. I'm starting to believe that they either got really hurt and don't want to admit it, or they just come on here to be super rebellious and then leave since there is no argument anymore after they get their bike.

I think that a lot of the people who do get big first bikes quickly realize that this isn't the sort of forum for them. They move on to other forums or quit forums entirely.

Well, alleywayrickashay came back, said that he had laid his bike down. I posted in the original one--he was asking about using the choke while riding--because some of the feedback was getting rather harsh. Someone pointed out to me that the experienced riders get tired of beating their (helmeted

) heads against the wall, and can get short with newbies who ask for advice and then ignore it. Absolutely, I can appreciate this.

Then again, I suspect that Ducky, who joined 2 days ago, may not be back, since he was strongly voted down in his choice of first bike: 750 Ducati.

So, if these starry-eyed newbs get chased away, they are not likely to return for further humiliation if/when the experienced riders are proved correct.

I'm not inherently ticked off at someone who got a big first bike; he (or she) already made the decision to buy it, and though I might not agree with the choice, best of luck to them.

What IS tiring are people who get big first bikes, and then engage in some sort of desperate crusade to get support and affirmation for their choice from a bunch of strangers on the internet.

Then when they don't get a big yay and group hug, they resort to good old anecdotal arguing ("Well I've been riding for two whole weeks on my ZZXRR1000YZFRwhatever and I still haven't gone down") against fairly well-funded research, statistics from a number of countries, possibly hundreds of years of collective group experience, and just plain and simple common sense, to defend an inherently flawed point.

It's hard to strike the right balance. I agree mostly with Grey Thumper's post, re: the whole "affirm my choice that I already made" dynamic.

But I also think we on TMW can come down kinda hard on noobs sometimes. Not pointing fingers, I've been guilty of it too. Just sayin'
