I crashed 3 years ago, with minor injuries that ran a couple thousand $. Also needed new protective gear. My comprehensive covered the first $1000 of medical and $1000 toward new gear in addition to repairing the bike.
Some "regular" insurers will refuse to pay for motorcycle related injuries, the AMA is working to make sure that that is changed.
