Best Way to Clean Face Shields
Sorry if this has been covered already... I can't find it anywhere so I have to ask: What is the best way to clean a face shield? I don't want to go out and buy a special cleaner or something if all you need is soap and water!

I use both. Warm soap and water and a soft cloth for cleaning. Then, i finish up with a nice coating of Pledge. It really does make the bugs come off easier. I started using it on the windshield and leading edges of my airplane wings for that reason. Great stuff!
Edit - BTW, Pledge is also good for hiding scratches. I have a plexi windshield that was destroyed when a goofball relative of mine decided to clean off the bugs with a plastic scouring pad. The scratches virtually disappear when I apply a coating of Pledge. Last for about 3 weeks outside, but it's cheaper than a new windshield.

When your shield starts to get a few fine scratches and swirls in it, then you will probably want to get some special cleaner like Plast-X or whatever the heck it is that Doc uses. (I can't remember the name of it)
Plast-X is also good for the windshield.
Good stuff.

For several years with Arai helmets I used baby wipes with good success. On my Shark helmet the baby wipes disolved the visor....

Dang, I've heard of visor coatings getting dissolved, but the visor itself being eaten by baby wipes... what do they make baby butts out of nowadays?High_Side wrote:For several years with Arai helmets I used baby wipes with good success. On my Shark helmet the baby wipes disolved the visor....

I use a warm/hot, dish-soapy SOFT papertowel (I use Bounty) that I lay across the entire visor to let the dried junk sook and soften, then I wipe it off. I make sure to lather the visor well, inside and out. The I take a completely dry piece of papertowel and wipe in full even strokes across the visor. I get a nice streak free, very clear visor.
I got some stuff called "Cat Crap" that's for ski goggles, sunglasses, face shields etc. for anti fog and cleaning/polishing. It's good if I remember to use it, but the Pledge might be cool, thanks!
