breast cancer run?
breast cancer run?
sorry to invade on your turf ladies, but I have a question that only a woman/women can answer.
my wife and little sister are avid runners and since my mom got diagnosed with BC(she is going to be fine) they are doing BC fund raising run's sponsored by Avon.
I was speaking to the Avon rep because I was home when the phone rang and I asked her if Avon sponsered motorcycle run's as fund raisers because I know there are alot of women riders and this could appeal to them and she said she didn't think so but would pass my idea up to corporate.
do any of you ladies know of bike runs like this, if not, would you be interested in doing them?
also, what would you call them? all my ideas are kind of sexist, run for the rack, run for 2nd base (sorry I'm a guy)
any constructive thoughts are welcome
I hope I have not offended any ladies, my intentions are good if not well articulated

Well, made ME spit my coffee out!! Run for the Rack, or Second Base!? Yep, you are a guy!!
Up here we have done one for years and it is called "Ride for Hope". It is pretty much done up as a Poker run with giveaways at the end.
The local BC group comes out and sets up an information table at the BBQ at the end and gives away stuff, has t-shirts for sale, and then we present them with a check at the end of the run. A few of them have ridden with us on the run. They really enjoy coming out and everyone knows it is for a good cause. I have a flyer from last year or the year before if you want to e-mail me at keepnik@acsalaska.net, I can send it to you just to give you an idea. I am sure your local BC center would enjoy doing that? You should set it up yourself. Guys are the ones that set it up here and then everyone pitches in...
Works out really well.

I did a ride a few years ago through the Susan G Komen Foundation. It was called Ride for a Cure and it started up in Washington and had several different legs that people could join in on along the way. Went to Texas, iirc. There are different events throughout the year in different areas so check out the website and see if there's something coming to your area. It was extremely moving and inspiring to be involved in!

okay I got a couple of slaps for my name ideas, but my wife went to the orientation for her BC walk and was told that the rest stations are easy to find, just look for the pink van with the watermellons on top.
Pink ribbon run sounds ghahy, and breasts have always been a good way to attract people, and guys money spends just like girls money so here we go...
