Re: HD Sportster 883 or 1200
Fer pete's sake..... you want the 1200. Get the 1200. Give up a few silly luxuries like food, shelter, and clothing for a few months, and you've got the price difference licked.pjstevens77 wrote:Price point. I can get an 883 for less and I am on a pretty strict budget. Trust me, I want the 1200, I am just trying to either justify the expense or find a really good reason to buy an 883

See? Now aren't you glad Al Gore invented the internet so you could get highly valuable advice like this????

Why do you think the 883 wouldn't have enough power to move you? I have some friends that I have ridden with who are your size and ride KLR650's. They don't seem to have a problem cruising on the highway or smoking sports cars off the lights.
The lighter bike is going to be easier to handle than the bigger one as well.

If you compare a 883C to a 1200C you'll see they are identical weight. They're pretty identical in all respects except two: 1) price, 2) cylinder bore. A 1200 is just a bored out 883.Gadjet wrote:Why do you think the 883 wouldn't have enough power to move you? I have some friends that I have ridden with who are your size and ride KLR650's. (..and the other problem with 883's is they keep getting smoked at traffic lights by Hinckley Bonnevilles.....

To pj: underneath my smart-a$$ery, I was serious. If you're anything like me, the "woulda-shoulda" will gnaw at your brain. It's $1950 more for the 1200. Beg, borrow, or steal the money and buy the bike you know you want. You'll be happier in the long run. My $.02

I've been riding an 883c for about a year now and, although i love my bike, I'm really wanting to upgrade to a 1200. If you're looking for power, go with the 1200 ... i don't think you'll be happy with an 883.
On the otherside, I really also like my 62 mpg and $400 full coverage insurance a year on the thing, so I think i'll stick with my 883 for a while longer.
I could care less what people think, an 883 is not a girl's bike. Half the people i've heard say that don't even own a bike so F that.

Thank you for that, I am with you. The sporters have really evolved quite nicely over the past 4 years and I can't understand the "girls bike" mentality. I think at this point it is just the macheesmo ribbing that has gone on between manly men for decades.koji52 wrote:I've been riding an 883c for about a year now and, although i love my bike, I'm really wanting to upgrade to a 1200. The nightster IS sweet, I love the flat paint and the black laced wheel. I'm goin with an 04 1200 Custom. I found a nice silver one with less than 4k miles for pretty cheap money. Hyper charger, exhaust and some other stuff on it. If I could go new, it would be between the nightster and a black cherry customjonnythan wrote:Cool!pjstevens77 wrote:It's final, I'm goin for the 1200!! I'll post a pic of when I get it!
Know what you want? It's hard to get cooler than that Nightster...
