Meeting Skip n his Mates (cattle, wild horse n camels etc) Whilst Riding is Mostly FATAL.

Keeping an Eye Peeled for them is Paramount when Cruising the Outback... More so at Night.. but Dusk is Particulary Nasty.

YES, good O'l Skippy the BUSH Kangaroo....is someone we DO NOT want to meet ON the road!

SO....we M/C-lists avoid riding at night in the Outback.

Mostly nocturnal, but over the years I have seen a few Kangaroos during the DAY TIME (!)

Hopping around, but lucky enough not to have hit one, touch wood.

Some of the BIG buggas can be 6' Tall & built like body builders!

- Ride in the Outback during daylight hours only! OR risk an up close & personal meeting with Skippy

Really diggin' the classic 'stand upright on the bike with hands on the hips' emergency avoidance posture Al.

It's Bambi we have to worry about here. Night is worst, but a couple hours before and after sun-up/down are danger times too. Bloody vermin

. Can't shoot 'em, they are too big to stuff back down the hole and you'll end up in jail if just leave them laying by the roadside.... and they take your vehicle.

I'm glad someone finally clarified that skippy was a kangaroo.

Anyways, I imagine roos are something like deer in the states.

The give me the "o-sh*t"s when I see their eyes beaming.

I hit a roo whilst riding to work one morning in Canberra. It bounded up from where the ground fell away beside the road so I didn't see it till I had nowhere to go. Fortunately it saw me too and put the anchors on, so there I was bracing for the impact with great eye contact with a rather surprised kangaroo and all I felt was a small shudder through the bars and its body glancing off my leg.
A foot further over and it would have turned pear shaped rather quickly.
