rotor cleaning

#1 Unread post by kennydude »

heyyyy !

first off - let me apologize for not logging in as often as i should. rock n roll and ridin the bike have kept me busy. :P

anyway, its been snowin a bit here (lamee) and i noticed today that i have a bit of scuff (looks orange like rust, but maybe not rust?) on my rotors. i have kept the bike under a good cover - but there musta been something slippin through.

the point i guess is, is whats the best thing to clean it ? power wash at the car wash or something better?

thanks lads !

enjoy the (almost hereee - at least in calgary) summer !
Life is beautiful man !

The best way to deal with that surface rust (very common on a bike parked for the winter), is to run the bike up to speed and use the brakes firmly a few times. Rust gone.

The safety and liability obsessed would probably have me mention.... give yourself plenty of room for those first few stops, then remove the brake pads and clean them, take the bike in and have it inspected, mic the rotors, have them machined and a bunch of other stuff you really don't need to do. Just rinse the pads well with a waterstream the next time you wash the bike. Then ride it again soon to dry to brakes off.
No Witnesses.... :shifty:

Don't use the powerwash... If you hit the bearings with it, say good-bye to grease...
