Battery covered under warranty?

Went to start my bike after the winter, nothing. So I boosted it using my car and the next day, nothing.

The bike is still covered under an extended warranty, would this cover the battery as well?

Thanks for the insight. Curious if anyone has ever had this happen to them.

I don't think so, no. You have to read the literature that came with your warranty, or call and ask.

Not likely covered. The dealer may replace it as a goodwill gesture or give you a discount on a new one. Batteries are very fickle things. Some last 5 or 6 years, some die within a year.

I haven't had much time lately, intend to get this resolved over the next few days to get riding season under way.

Check your local law. Over here car batteries, maybe also bike batteries, have a 3 year pro rata warranty.

If it packs up in 2 years then the new battery will cost 2/3 the price of a new one.

Also get a hold of a battery tender for winter. That will help get maximum life from the battery.

I agree with the Battery Tender (float charger) idea, BUT, like I said above, batteries are fickle things.

My wife had a brand new, 2003 650 V-Star. When prepping her bike for winter storage I of course removed the battery, took it inside the house and placed it on the Battery Tender for the winter. Next spring, hooked the battery up and all it would do is allow the lights to glow, but not enough juice to actually start the bike. Dealer tested it and diagnosed the battery as having a dead cell. It was not covered by warranty. The dealer offered a different brand of battery at a price cheaper than what Walmart was asking...it worked fine for years.

But, yes, go with a Battery Tender if you must store the battery for any length of time.

A battery is considered part of "normal" wear and tear, and therefore not covered. For warranty purposes it is not part of the bike. The battery itself may carry a warranty anywhere from 30 days (super cheap batteries)to 3 years (top of the line AGM) depending on battery. (most common is 90days for lead acid type, 1 year for sealed) Many may be prorated.

NOTE some battery warranties start when sold by dealer but some go by date of manufacture

I'm used to storing cars for the winter, and even then I've only removed the battery one year if I remember correctly. Every other year (8-10) the battery was left in the car and the car for some of those years was left in a cold garage. Come Spring, fire it up. No problems. And that was on 35-40 yr old machines...

This bike is stored in a heated garage, and since the bike is just a few years old I didn't even think of a battery tender. I'll consider it for sure.

Now I have to call the dealer and probably get myself to a NAPA type place.

I think I remember hearing some people saying its not a good idea to jump your motorcycle battery with your car.

As for it being covered under warentee, I doubt it.
