1981 yamaha xs400?

i just got my first bike and was told that it was a xs 400 but i know that their are different types how do you tell the differences between them? please help me.

Do you have pictures (probably can tell from them alone) or a vin number?

I believe there were 4 types...heres a link from the TMW site (theres more to it then the forums I once read in a siggie)

As far as I know, they are all the same engine, just different frames I think
