Help! Gas dripping, won't start.

#1 Unread post by SamuelDW »

Hello! I have a unique situation. I am trying to start a 1982-ish Honda that I bought for peanuts from a friend. My friend got it running, and then disassembled it in order to sell it for parts (he was bribed into doing that by his mom, who helped him buy a nice road bicycle in exchange for getting rid of a deathtrap).
Anyway, I bought it from parts and have assembled it, which I wasn't sure exactly of how to do.
I finally got everything somewhat right, and opened up the gas line, pressed the "start" button, and only got an audible "click."
Then, gas started pouring out of some (two) rubber tubes that are attached to the bottom of my carburator, and hang limp below. The gas just dripped onto the concrete below.
From what I can tell, the electrical system works as far as being able to tell me things on the left circle display next to my key (the turn/neut/horn, etc. lights light up), and my signal lights work, as does the rear brake light.
The horn does not work.
Anyway, is it obvious to anyone that I am doing something grossly wrong? (don't worry, I'm not planning on actually driving this thing, once fixed, until I get some proper training, etc).

getting only a click on pushiong the strater could be a shot starter selanoid. pretty cheap. and sounds like your carbs are botched. did you adjust them prior to reinstalling, if not, maybe they just need a good cleaning.
