According to protocol, I'm supposed to post to this thread first, to tell everyone a little about me......... so, here goes the boring stuff.
I'm 58 years old, been riding bikes since I was 14. Mostly in the younger days, rode dirt bikes in and around the Wichita area. Graduated to a street/dirt type bike (Enduro) in 1974 when I purchased a Honda 360 (or something like that, been so many years ago), and had to rebuild job when the cam broke in half while riding on the street. Then came fatherhood, and most of my riding went back to dirt and to the mountains of Colorado with the kids.
After the kids moved away and started having their own kids, I got the itch to get back into riding. Talked it over with the better half, and in '04, bought a Honda 1100 Aero, 2000 vintage. Sweet looking bike, had some power, but out on the highway, was stretching things with a rider on the back, and plus it had some vibration that I didn't care for. Nice thing? It was water cooled and didn't throw a lot of heat back at me.
Then came the fateful day in Wichita when BigDog Motorcycles held their first Tornado Rally. Lots of dealerships came, and I got to try out several bikes, from Yamahoppers, to Suzuki's, to HD's, and then to Victory's. I was blown away by the Victory Kingpin. That was a new '05. The dealership invited me up to Topeka to ride a new one, on an extended tryout. I took them up on it, and was hooked.
Some call me a Harley basher. Not entirely true. I looked long and hard at the Harley VRS water cooled bike. Liked the looks, but when I rode it, didn't really like the rider position too well. Rode an Ultra-Glide, didn't care for the full touring thing, plus it had a lot of vibration that I didn't care for. Loved the sound though. Power was lacking a little, but understood that I could "boost" it. Later rode my bro's '08 Ultra-Classic, and found the same to be true. So, really didn't consider purchasing an HD's.
After riding the Victory Kingpin, the wife and I both loved it. Comfortable, easily handled, no vibration at idle or at speed, one very smooth ride. Only thing needed was some good sound to it. So started looking for one to purchase.
Found one on Ebay in late '06. Black '06 Kingpin a guy won in a drawing, and didn't ride bikes. I offered him a price, he accepted it and the wife and I headed off to Kentucky to bring the bike home. We have loved it ever since!
Since purchasing the '06 Kingpin Deluxe, we have added crash bars, 2" pullback's, Stage One Swept Exhaust System, Tach, some pillion grab bars, and the PIAA driving lights. One sweet ride, in my opinion. If I can figure out how to post, will do some pics of the bike.
