Hey all. A buddy asked me to help him clean his carbs on a bike (82 cm450c) he bought that has been neglected it has the stock Kiehin (sp?) with throttle controling the butterfly and engine vacuum opens the slide (not sure of model)
My problem...It ran great BUT had some hesitation at Full throttle and a fuel leak.
We broke each one down individually and blew out and cleaned every part and reinstalled as was before and it runs fine...but idles at 2500 without any adjustment to back it off?
What I found in cleaning and inspecting. the air-cut off valves had small tears. the Accelerator pump diaphragm had a tear, one of the float valves was not closing completely causing the leak.
Since its running worse now than it was and for all parts to rebuild both carbs it'll be ~$100 we are trying to identify the part causing the idle to be to high so he can ride it until after the new year and rebuild it when he gets the spare dough?
Any ideas as to the cause of a high idle alone? the idle adjustment isn't even contacting the lever.
Thanks in advance!

Re fast Idle
Hey I talked to one of our techs, sounds like you have a vacuum leak. We hear this problem many times when people come looking for carb kits and pieces and just want to get through till what ever. No disrespect to your buddy but the safest option for both the rider and the bike is to park it, polish it and enjoy looking at it till the job can be done properly. The only way so I'm told is to completely disassemble the carb, soak them in industrial carb cleaner and install complete carb kits. Good luck whatever you guys do. Jay...

If the cable isn't holding it open, then start looking for a vacuum leak.

I forgot I posted here and ran across it searching for another issue. But to let you know...When reassembling the idle connection between the carbs was in a bind so one was held open further give the higher idle even when the idle was all the way out! SO Buzzz was closest!
Thanks for the help yall
