Changing at heater core is a real bugger. Just bypass the "in" to the "out" and you are covered.

i might try that rather than having to buy the new one(which is a pain to find for my car i found out). theres no other purpose for the heater core though if i bypass it? living in the desert ive really no need for a heater, the defrost ive used a few times but can live without.

whats the best way to bypass it? just some hose and clamps?

I'm gonna call you Red Green From now on...

Some hoseclamps and a short connector pipe will do it. Take the 2 small dia. heater hoses leading to the firewall off, join them with the connector piece and clamp them on. Then tie them up to something so they stay put and don't rub a hole in themselves. Then close the hood to hide your shame.... :LOL2:

Some cars use the heatercore as part of the A/C as well, but not all of them.... make sure it still works after you do it.

When you sell the car, own up and tell the buyer that the heatercore has been bypassed and may be fubared.
No Witnesses.... :shifty:

i did use duct tape to hold together my air in take hose for about 6 months before i finally got a new hose, the old one was so dry rotted it broke into pieces. love the duct tape.

the AC doesnt work anyways so who cares about that. i doubt anyone would buy it, it looks so ghetto. but the motor is strong thats all i care about.

Heater core symptoms~ Smell of antifreeze in the car. Wet carpeting in the foot wells. Chronically fogged windows.

MAKES A CAR NASTY :D . I used a small amount of dish soap with hot water.. wash then dry with a clean towell.
I accept my own life as a blessing and a gift

add onto that only the driver window works, passenger window(powerd) acts up and will go down but then not go back up most of the time. so ya it sucks bad.

just an update.

planned on bypassing the heater core inside the engine compartment(after looking around alot it seemed most ever car has 2 hoses going through the firewall for the heater right next to each other and would be an easy place to bypass). mine of course is not one of these, a friend of mine has bypassed/replaced a few hoses and said each time he had to jack the trans up to get to the lower hose. for whatever reason the supra has one heater hose nice and acceseble the other is god aweful. he said if it is the core leaking then no question pull the dash and just replace it(or bypass it at that point). so a day wasted with that project. he does know someone parting out the same car he might sell me pretty much a running supra for 200$ though that will work out nicely if i snag that and just pick at it as needed. ;)

but god this car sucks some times, stupid stuff like this make me wanna smack the designers.

The heater hoses can be bypassed closer to the engine. One hose will be coming out of the waterpump, the return line will re-enter the engine waterjacket someplace. Find these 2 pionts and connect them with a hose.

Just for future head-ache avoidance..... for basic transportaion, avoid anything sporty, sexxy or fast. Sucks, I know..... but chick-magnet cars are designed to look good, not for easy or cheap maintance.

the hoses arent anywhere near to each other. one is on the passenger side coming out of the motor going into the firewall/heater, the other hose coming out of the heater/firewall is down in the middle of the firewall some where i cant even see from above or under the car and goes into the motor some where back/under there. the guy i talked to said to reach the lower hose from the engine compartment you need to drop the trans.

yes a hose would bypass it but you cant get to it because of where they are and it would have to be one long snaked hose to reach from the two points... or so say the local supra gurus i talked to. id show you a hose diagram if i could find one myself. i did see the actual heater core part and it has two very long metal pipes coming out of it that go into the firewall. i still might try it tomorrow if i can actually See the lower hose.

i got my hands on a haynes service manual and it doesnt have anything about these hoses of course, it shows the upper hose in one photo thats it, no diagrams or how to's.

i didnt want the car actually but someone sold it to me for dirt cheap and let me make payments on it(had no cash) and i needed a car badly at the time. but its grown on me now i like it, its dam fast and ghetto just the way i like it ;)
