I have a Tankslapper and a Second Look color "matched" tank bra on top of it. The tank is still in perfect condition with not a scratch. The tank bra does give it an outdated 1990s look to it but I think the color "matched" helps a little and since this bike has clip-ons below the triple clamp, the tank would get the dodo scratched out of it otherwise.

Car salesmen will tell you what a mess a front cowling will do to a car's paint job and they don't recommend them. Not sure about metal filings on the road, but you can sure collect a whole lot of dust and dirt in everyday riding.
That tank cover sounds cool. Do you have a link? It might not prevent my problem, but it gives me options. I suspect the turnpike is a very 'dirty' road - and so is NYC.

Here you go, my friend. It's made by Targa. Guess it was actually a 1/2 tank cover, not 3/4, but they had both when I ordered. They have a lot of other cool stuff for the 250R.

Thanks Man! I'm definitely going to check it out. Now, if it gets past my wife as something worth getting...

Rhadam these tank bras do not really protect the tank from a magnetic tank bag. They are meant to protect the tank from zippers scratching it from the forward lean riding position of a sport bike. They really do a great job although it does have a 1990s look to it. Back in the 1990s, just about every sportbike sported a tank bra.

Seems like it isn't an option anyway, so I'll be looking in to the protective stuff mentioned earlier in the thread.
