I always had aftermarket exhaust on my bikes and never was ever pulled over for it. Of course they were all reasonable noise levels. They are louder than stock but nothing obnoxious(you can always tell by the reaction of pedestrians).
Now in the past, we used to have a ton of Harleys running around with open pipes. I mean ear splitting obnoxiously loud. I have noticed that those pipes are just about all gone now. That to me, would mean that the local cops really cracked down on these idiots with open pipes but did not bother with the guys that had reasonable aftermarket exhausts.

I don't have a problem with the PD wanting louder pipes. I also don't have a problem with them spending $1200 to fund a bogus study. That money could have been better spent on donuts but in the big picture it amounts to a mere rounding error of the city's budget. What I have a problem with is these cops breaking the law just so they can feel safer. I believe the law applies to everyone, LEO's included. It's nothing to lose any sleep over but at the same time it's a textbook example of a double standard.

Thank the politicians for that. That's why there are so many crappy laws - so they can feel safe and show the grand public they are doing something to "fix" the issue at hand
Right now with our school being developed all around and such we've got a lot of this stuff going on. A lot of guys have open pipes that really are obnoxious (and I let em know it). A lot of the neighbors complain because we all leave the school at 11:30 PM and we wake them up. Our only argument (and it's losing horribly) is that we've been on this road running every week day save some holidays since before these houses were even on the drawing board. If they don't like it they shouldn't have moved in. (Three shifts of students, starting at 6:30 AM, ending at 11:30 PM.)
As for those with louder exhausts but not earsplitting, that's fine with me, I like Akrapovic pipes myself, but open or no can at all and it's just absurd...
