Motorcycle Magazines

I subscribe to Motorcyclist only. Used to also get Cycle, Cycle World, Rider etc, but the same articles show up in all of them pretty much at the same time. I decided I liked Motorcyclist's columnists and their re-testing of bikes a year or two after the initial test and they have a lot of short info articles that pack a lot into one mag. Not crazy about their (and every other mag's) obsession with Ducatti's, though.

I currently subscribe to RoadRunner, Motorcyclist, and Rider. I've also recently signed up as an AMA member, so I should be getting that sometime soon too.

As others mentioned, a lot of the articles are somewhat similar and released at almost the same time, so I'll probably let either Motorcyclist or Rider or both expire when they do. I really like the RoadRunner magazine though so I'll probably keep that one.

I have two -- Road Runner and my guilty pleasure mag, Robb Motorcycling. Some amazing stuff shows up in both. I don't care for most of the mainstream bike 'zines; they just wrap a thin layer of the same content everyone else is publishing for free on the web around 75 pages of ads.

to add my voice...

i like cycleworld. i ever now and then check out motorcyclist. something i do look at often is american iron mag but i got one last month. i'm not a harley rider and i don't like the mag being so specific... but this last one has some very good articles. it has a 4 or 5 page article on torque wrenches - plus other very informative articles. i'll be giving it a more frequent check in the future. i don't like rider so much. those are about the only ones i've looked at. i like mags that have a "balanced" approach. i like sport bikes but i don't want it to just be about sport bikes. i like cruisers but i don't want to just read about cruisers. and i want something with some good in depth technical info. i'm still looking for the perfect mag

Roadbike: Ride Metric (just Roadbike it is referred to mostly) is one of my favorites along with Motorcyclist and Rider for a nice short read.

Then there are the British magazines like TWO (Two Wheels Only) and BIKE that are quite good but are starting to get ad heavy and more Moto GP coverage. The good thing is that every issue focuses on safety whether going through corners or riding in town or the motorway when wet. I highly recommend those two magazines though they are $8 - 10 an issue. Still get it for the helpful safety articles!!!

Ever since Jessica Prokup (?) left Roadbike it seems like there aren't as many good articles. I do still like it better than most of the others.

I find 99% of what I want online though .

My favorite mag is Motorcycle Sport and Leisure. It's a Brittish publication, but an american company offers fairly cheap subcriptions in the US. It has the most complete reviews, and news, and the best written articles in my opinion.
Motorcyclist is my favorite American publication due to the quality writing, indepth reviews, and quality quest contributers (about 10% of the articles seem to be written by actual industry insiders instead of strictly by journalists).
Even though I ride a Harley Softail as my main bike, and ride sport bikes on the side, I have found that All Metric Roadbike is a good publication. The mag always has at leat one or two really good pictorial layouts about basic repairs and modifications that are well explained and easy to follow.
I also like Cycle World, and enjoy looking at some of the exotic bikes that no one I have ever met could possibly afford in the Robb Report.
I love my Softail, but haven't been able to get into any of the magazines that are strictly dedicated to Harley Davidson. The ones I have picked up seem to think that if the reader doesn't want to wear or customize their bike with leather streamers or tassles, or put $20,000 worth of aftermarket chrome on their bike, then they don't deserve to be riding a Harley. I put 10,000 miles a year on my Softail, but feel left out by those magazines beacuse the only thing in my house with the Harley logo on it is the bike itself, and the only parts I repeatedly put on the bike are tires.

It's the only British magazine, in my view, that writes for adults who are into bikes and biking - no gimmicks, no fuss, no glitz or glamour, just lots of lively and interesting reading.

It's been around since forever. I remember buying it in the 1960s.
