too good to be true?
http://westmd.craigslist.org/mcy/723520567.html
under 5k miles and 15 years old seems odd to me, does anyone know how hard it is to roll an odometer on a bike over? could it have 105k miles? lol.
basically, does this seem like a good deal or a scam to you? I've never bought a bike before so I really don't know what to look for

My first word was Honda.

Re: too good to be true?
I think it's more likely that this bike was just sitting around mostly unused for several years.rockershocker wrote:http://westmd.craigslist.org/mcy/723520567.html

By 1987 bike had 9k on the odometer when I bought it. I'm quite certain the odometer never rolled over.

Re: too good to be true?
Not a scam but may have had the speedo changed. Mileage on a bike is not as important as how well it works. How well it has been looked after.rockershocker wrote:http://westmd.craigslist.org/mcy/723520567.html

Dents in the tank? everything painted a flat black? Non original mirrors? ...that bike's been crashed. I'd stay away, you should be able to find a much better example for a couple of hundred more.

That's not necessarily true. Could be a few dings in the top of the tank.Flesher wrote:Dents in the tank? everything painted a flat black? ...that bike's been crashed. I'd stay away, you should be able to find a much better example for a couple of hundred more.
I'm about to paint my whole bike a flat black. Not because it's been crashed, but the paint is fading a bit and it would look cool.
Maybe it was some hideous faded green before or something. It is 15 years old.

yeah, thats kinda what I figured, I wont be able to buy for 4 or 5 more paychecks anyways, and I won't get my license until august, so I'm just watching craigslist, if i see a deal I'll pounce on it this would have been one of those but I don't think I'm gonna go for it

My bike is 28 years old and had 5500 miles on it when I got it. It was obvious that the bike had this much mileage, because everything was in near perfect condition. Granted, I got it from a dealership (it was the owner's father's bike) not a person from craigslist. Either way, it is definitely possible that the bike really does have that much mileage on it. Go look at it in person, that may help.

If you've got the red one, cover it up! In my early days (before I owned a house with a garage), my bikes were left outside in the AZ sun. The paint would start fading gradually within a few years. One day, to my horror, I realized that I was riding around on a pink Kawasaki (formerly red). I ended up taking a can of red Krylon to it. It wasn't very pretty, but at least is wasn't pink anymoremydlyfkryzis wrote:Nighthawks come in 4 colors, depending on year.
Red, Yellow, Blue and Black.
None are what I would call Hideous.
My 91 NH paint is fading a little, but looks tons better than flat black.
I bet that bike was dropped.

BTW - My current NH is the '93 blue one (only year for blue). It sits in the garage at home and under covered parking at work. The paint still looks new. What a difference a garage makes.
