how do you even keep the front wheel on the ground with that mod to allow the boost at 3k rpms ha. is there problems in general with popping the front up on that bike, its strong but it also seems heavy enough to not pop up like a super sport?

the ride position is ok for me, ive been told i have long arms maybe thats why. i really dont like the look of the seat but its nice enough once your on it. the passenger seat kind of blends in with the fender doesnt look like its a seat really which i like. but it seems like it would be comfortable also. i think id add a sissy bar though for sure, the gf doenst like them but that thing will fly so its not worth the risks with that...

i thought they were going to keep making them, if anything they were going to do a new model along with the current one? whered you see 05 was the last year for them?

wow lots of replys in one post, i shoulda quoted but oh well. from what ive herd noone understands my poor grammer/spelling/typing anyways so.

You might want to jump soon if you are gonna pick one up. I think the 2005 is the last year they made them. The price may jump if they are discontinued.
Not true. They have the 2006 model posted on the Yamaha website.

Well, I stand corrected. I just checked out the 2k6 version. I guess the Salesman was lying. Imagine that....

I think your salesman was speculating (like mine), the 05 is an "anniversary edition" and comes witha neat emblem so I guess that's cool.

As far as the seat goes, it's not too comfy.

It's true, the vmax will return for '06 in it's current form but with a different paint scheme.

The seating position is fine with me. I came off a cruiser (Magna) and it took some getting used to, but it's fine now. I like it a lot. It's not as leaned forward as several of the street bikes out there now. We jsut went through the shopping routine for the wife and she sat on almost every standard we could find, the vmax was, in her opinion, more upright. Like you, I have very long arms and the reach is minimal for me.

The seat itself is wide and rounded like a horse saddle. It took some time for my butt to get used to it, it even hurt after 30 minutes at first, but now it's as good as anything. Just took some adjustment time for the ol' buns. The other adjustment item was the location of the footpegs, they are right where you want to put your feet when stopped. No big deal, I don't even think about it anymore.

One other mod I forgot to mention that I'll be doing to mine soon is replacing the stock handlebar with one that is 2" wider. Looks just like the stock bar but gives better leverage and makes the mirrors see more than half your elbows (according to Furbur's site). A lot of max owner's love to put drag bars on, too.

Power... keeping the front down is not a problem. You have to work the clutch at a high rpm launch to get it up. But, it WILL come up, and if you have the skill you can wheelie the thing. 600+ pounds of bike and a shaft drive won't keep that motor down!

I love the look of the stock pipes, the symmetry is pleasing to my eye and balances the whole bike, but to each their own. As for buying used, if the bike is obviously cared for and the motor doesn't make any odd sounds, go for it. Yes, many will have been ridden hard and put away wet. But as with any used bike, scope out the seller as much as the bike. Maybe you can find grandpa somewhere selling one!

im going to hold out untill i find just that. someone that loved the bike and has been on it for its whole life would be a perfect find. my current bike i found just the right kinda seller(wife making the guy sell the bike off fast so he took any offer basically). lighting might strike twice ahaha.

now im really looking forward to my second bike, ive been wanting back on a cruiser but just dont like the whole image of chrome and leather that a cruiser usually puts off. the vmax reminds me off old muscle cars and all aobut power no thing flashy. i might primer it just for that 'i dont care what it looks like' attitude ;)

what would straight pipes sound like on that thing....

Probably like a pair of sledgehammers beating on steel bars all day.
Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

thats more like it, i love that sound. i was next to some big cruiser today with straights and it was as loud as my car(supra 2.5" straights to 3" high flow exhaust). he didnt like my car though he kept pulling ahead of me to get away from the sound, must really like to hear his bike. i kind of like being near a loud vehicle get a wicked reverb effect makes a totally new combined sound.
