Time to upgrade
I went for a 100 mile ride yesterday and flipped the odometer to 3000. Bike was new this spring. Although that isnt the reason I want to upgrade. I have a Yamaha Virago 250. I just started riding this spring. My problem is my tailbone area just aches after approx. 50 straight miles. I enjoy the riding so much that I stay on her but am not at all comfortable. I'm 6 ft/175 with a 36" inseam. I think my knees are too close to my head making my seating position what it is to affect my tailbone. I love the bike tho! The other bikes ive seen on the net all seem to have near the same seat height. Granted I haven't sat on any either but this bike feels more than comfortable too when just sitting on her. Any thoughts/opinions? Thanks

Sounds to me that you need a more upright position so that your sitting on your cheeks instead of your tailbone. Go sit on a Kawasaki 250R or a Kawasaki 500 Ninja. Both are standard bikes disguised as sport bikes.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Always wear a helmet, eye protection, and protective clothing. Never ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

I am similar build as you, same height and weight but man I thought I had long legs!
Anyway, I would say go sit on GS500E(naked, the bike not you). By any means, go ahead and try Ninjas as well as no two people are alike but I've tried a Ninja 250 and I found it downright terrible and far from an upright bike. Never set on a 500 but I bet it's similar to Suzuki GS500F which is slightly less upright then their naked counterparts.
I own a GS500E and a Honda CB750F, both naked bikes, not as upright as dualsports but still upright bikes and standard.
Also, I have back problems as well so sitting wrong bugs me. Both of my bikes are very comfortable. Another thing I'd mention is the core muscles, hit the gym it will help a lot.

That's what I was thinking too. I can't sit a cruiser for long before I really start feeling the hurt - especially with the neck and shoulder things I have going on.
A standard seating position is much easier to handle. Might be worth a shot. Of course, unfolding the legs from around your ears might help the comfort as well
