Banana seat/saddle
My first bike is going to be the Suzuki DRZ 400SM.
Sitting on this seat is uncomfortable almost at once. However, it may be that for riders who have never ridden this style seat will always have to get used to it. And the discomfort will go away.
Wide bike seats are like sitting in an armchair.
When I first started riding horseback I remember it hurting like hell to walk for a couple of days in the beginning....and then it all felt fine once my inner legs got used to it.
Is it natural for someone new to this type "banana" seat to feel damn uncomfortable at first?
Is there a thread pertaining to this somewhere here?
Any help would be much appreciated.

What do you find so uncomfortable about the seat? From the picture I could see it hurting your lower back after some time on it because there's no lumbar support but it looks fairly upright in terms of seating position. Couldn't speculate beyond that without knowing where you're sore.
edit: What were you riding before that felt like an armchair?

I'm new to riding bikes, and the only bike I've ever ridden (briefly) is a Honda Nighthawk.
Sitting on a Suzuki DRZ 400 SM causes my inner thighs to feel uncomfortable. A friend of mine has one and he tells me it's because I'm new to riding.
It'll probably go away after a bit of riding....hopefully.

Umm.....no!StillTry'n wrote: Sitting on this seat is uncomfortable almost at once. However, it may be that for riders who have never ridden this style seat will always have to get used to it. And the discomfort will go away.

No dirtbike seat is comfortable. 50 miles you will be ready to jump off.

If you are planning to do some long distance with you Motard, you will need to look into an aftermarket seat like Corbin or Renazco.

Ah the Nighthawk, that's not an armchair. Goldwings are armchairsStillTry'n wrote:I'm new to riding bikes, and the only bike I've ever ridden (briefly) is a Honda Nighthawk.

Yeah the inner thighs being sore will probably go away like it did for riding a horse. Some of that will be you not being as tense on the bike, most of it will be your inner thighs getting stronger. But that seat's not really going to become an armchair, any more than an English saddle would become a western saddle. It won't be as cushy as the Nighthawk seat and you won't have back support. As long as you understand that and are okay with it you should be fine.StillTry'n wrote:Sitting on a Suzuki DRZ 400 SM causes my inner thighs to feel uncomfortable. The problem is not the inner thigh. The narrow seat's edges will dig into your a$$ and after 50 miles or so, it will feel like each of your a$$ cheek is resting on an anvil.obfuscate wrote:

I think that you guys have totally answered my question.
This bike is not for long rides, and NO, I will never get used to it.
Hyperr's aftermarket suggestion is probably the best way to go and I had actually looked at Corbin for this DRZ400.
Actually the seat is the least of my "new rider" problems.
First I've got to feel real comfortable on a bike. And at this stage of the game...... I do not.
But my goal is to git there!
Much Thanks
Dan

I think the inner thigh discomfort may be due to muscles that were not previously use regularly....? He is a new rider so that's a possibility. If that is the case, you are 100% right that it should go away as he gets used to it.obfuscate wrote:Hyperr: If Try'n had said his butt was sore I'd completely agree with you. That's why I asked how it was uncomfortable.
Once he gets over that discomfort and starts going on long ride, he will discover the torturous narrow seat that are on all dirtbikes, dual purposes, and motards.

What is it about the bike that you don't feel comfortable with? The seat height?StillTry'n wrote:
