Battery/wiring question

#1 Unread post by MOOCH »

I have an 86 Suzuki Intruder. Where does the battery negative lead cable go to from the negative post? And is this cable hard to change? I have a short in this cable and wondering if I can change it out myself. Thanks.

The negative post should go to the engine and the frame.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

If you mean that the negative cable lead is shorted to ground (i.e. the chassis), then all is well --- it's supposed to be. If you're experiencing some electrical problems....won't start, dim lights, etc....then check where that wire bolts to the chassis. On older bikes they can get rusted a bit and are no longer providing a good electrical connection. Unbolt it and clean the connector on the end of the wire and also where it bolts to the chassis. The same thing can apply where the coils bolt to the frame...a little rust there means a weak spark and a crappy running engine.

Cheers,

Mac
