Its approx £5.00 for a pack of 20. Most of that £5.00 is Tax. Which I begrudge paying. But my main point on this issue is freedom of choice. They should work something out with smokers and non smokers alike, and not be all one sided. There has to be a balance.

Ouch thats $11.25 Canadian, you really are paying a lot Barmy! I think they're around $7.00 Canadian here.
I was in Dorset in November and was surprised at the number of smokers, over time here, with the ban, smoking has become a lot less accepted. I wonder if thats going to happen in England. The owner of the pub where my daughter worked was quite sure life as they knew it would come to an abrupt end with the ban in pubs, and he wasn't even a smoker.
During world war 2 Churchill had a plan in place to ensure the Brits got their Cigs even if they were invaded.
Wonder if they would ban his cigar in the local if he were around today.

I think I'll come and live where you are now that is cheap! Buelligan, I think a lot of buisiness's are frightened of going under if there was a total smoking ban, But on the TV they're putting accross that smoking is unacceptable, I am beginning to feel that I'm a leper cause I smoke. I was on a ferry yesterday, there was a lot of people on the ferry, but only one area you could smoke and this place was totally jam packed full of people, packed in like sardines, the smokers were. the rest of the ferry, was easy to move around

The guys at work smoke in the break room. According to county and city laws this is now illegal, but it's not going to change. This bothers me because I'll wake up the next day and my throat will feel like it was roughed up with sandpaper, and I've had a cough that won't go away since I started working there in April.
We've made a deal, I don't complain to the bosses/managers and just make life annoying. And they keep the fans on and windows open. This clears away most of the smoke. And things have started getting better.
My biggest problem with someone else smoking is that it can make ME feel bad just by being near them.
It might be a self-centered view, but at the same time I think people should be hit in the head for not signalling when they turn or change lanes because it puts other people at risk. The problem is that smokes affect everyone in the area, not just the smoker. It's your right to smoke, but it's my right to not have to breath that crap in.
I'd like to see totally separated rooms at clubs and bars that you can go to. Separate air systems, fully sealed doors the works. Then we can all be happy, stand where you want do what you want and you aren't hurting anyone else.
People keep likening smoking to booze, I mean I can go out and get drunk at the bar, why can't I smoke? Because me drinking doesn't affect YOUR health (excluding me coming at you with a knife, but considering it's me, I'd be the most likely one to get hurt).

Of course I'm generalizing from a single example here, but everyone does that. At least I do.

I agree Seventurus, I wouldnt want a non smoker breathing my smoke in, but if there wre totally seperate areas where smokers could go with the adequate ventillation, there would be no need for you to breathe in other peoples smoke, but buisiness's and establishments should put these things in place, so that smokers and non smokers alike are both happy.
But I must add here in Britain Alchohol is a very big issue, You are getting gangs of drunks out late at night creating havoc, vandalising town centres, fighting and abusive language, shouting and screaming. The cost of policing towns and cities, not to mention you go to any casualty at a hospital on a Friday or Saturday night and they are full of drink related injuries etc. Not to mention the risk to staff, attacks etc from drunks. And the man that goes home drunk and beats his wife and kids, There is an awful amount of people who do. You might not Seveturus, but there are many who do. And I can speak from my own experiences. Its not all black and white, there is a lot of grey areas.

I think smoking should be banned in all public places unless smokers are completly blocked off and the building is equipped with some type of system to make sure the smoke cannot reach any non-smokers. It's been proven that 2nd hand smoke, even for short terms can cause health problems and even cancer. I don't think forcing someone who wants to go to a bar and have a drink to come home stinking like smoke should be legal... the same goes for resturants.

The probably with this is that employees at some places still have to breath the smoke in, its not practical to hire non-smokers for certain areas and smokers for other areas.
