Nebo Loop September 7, 2008
Had to do the ride solo. Bunch of guys who ride around here headed North for a weekend Run to Bear Lake. After my Boulder Loop experience, I told them a 1,000 mile ride over two days would kill me. A couple others that I know ride had other commitments so once again it was off on a solo ride.

Plan was to leave at 10:00 and be home around 5:00. For once I was on time leaving. 20 minutes into the trip, almost got run over by an ambulance!
Checked the GPS just after turning off Highway 132 onto the Nebo loop, 88 miles just to get to the turnoff. Couldn't get any good shots, but the first several miles consists of the remenants of a burn that went through the area last year.
First sign I come to say "road damage ahead." So I slow down and come up on the curce. Road damage? One lane of the road is completely missing with a dirt birm around it.

After the missing section of road, things get better. Road is good, not many tar snakes. This is a good example of what the road looks like.

Signs along the road mark out how high up your getting. Just after the 8,000 foot marker, Mt. Nebo becomes what you watch.

No pull out, but since I haven't seen another vehicle since the turnoff, I figured a quick stop and a look back from where I came.

Another look at the road ahead and Mt. Nebo

Just before the summit is a place called "Hell's Kitchen." Maps refered to it as a mini "Bryce Canyon." Also the map said it was just a short walk to it from the road. I was kind of learly becuase I knew there are other turnouts I wanted to stop at. But the information was right. It was just a short 5 minute walk to the over look. Minature Bryce was right.

Just over the summit was a little pull out with a great view.

Remember the old Gilgan's Island show. Guy named wrongway. That's how I felt. Every time I stopped, not a vehicle coming my way. But a lot of traffic the other way. A lot of other riders along the way as well.

One of the last stops was the "Utah Lake overlook." This looks down onto Payson (and the end of the North leg where I'll be headed back south.)

A look at some of the turns going down the backside.

Probably another week and the colors will be amazing. A few tree's had already started to turn.

To me, this along with Highway 12 (boulder loop) are two that are a MUST if you ride through Utah.
Video from the "backside" from near the Utah Lake overlook, down into payson. You know near the end that little white car I come up on suuuure looks like a patrol car. But I'll never tell if it was or wasn't.
