Bike day for me too

#1 Unread post by 1975Tiger »

well Monday actually was the official bike day. Bought a 2005 Suzuki C50 with only 2600 miles. Bike was in a guys storage building with dust and cobwebs. Brought it home and shined it up - man it looks brand new. Seriously , other than a small scratch on the front fender this bike is still new. I am so satisfied with this purchase.

I am a new rider and have the MSF course scheduled for week of 10/10/08 and can't wait to get there. I have ridden the bike up and down the street a few times - already experienced a 'blind' driver - man I fully understand the defensive mentality you need to ride safely. This inconsiderate lady made me recognize that in a hurry.

Anyway, I have enjoyed reading this forum and appreciate seeing all the positive riding comments. One question - when do you get to the point where you can sleep at night with a bike in your garage?

Hmmm... dust and cobwebs... How long do you think that bike just sat in that shed?

You might want to check the tires and hoses real good for dry rot. I'd change all the fluids too.
People say I'm stupid and apathetic. I don't know what that means, and I don't care.

Always wear a helmet, eye protection, and protective clothing. Never ride under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Very good advice. I know a few people who could learn from that.

:)

1975tiger.......when can you sleep at night knowing you have a bike in your garage? If you are having problems sleeping, then take your sleeping bag out to the garage.....

Seriously.....the excitement will settle down next year.

Great bike and just take your time learning about the handling of it at first. It weighs more than the bikes you'll practice on by 2X's.

Perfect 1st bike if taken slow.

My first (last month) is a c50T. Let me know when you're out of class and riding, we can compare newbie notes. It is indeed MUCH heavier than the class bikes, but it's been good to me so far.

Needs a new horn, though...

JohnJ - thanks - I am taking it to be checked by a Suzuki dealer next week. I've looked it over pretty good but I am going to get them to do a complete service.

blues2cruise - great advice - I'll be in the garage tonight

Anyone - what type of helmet do you recommend - full face or 3/4? I like the protection of the full face but feel it will be easier to see with a 3/4 - and seeing is pretty important.

Well, this is a topic that tends to generate a lot of opinions, for sure!

Having used both, I'll vote full-face every time. Never, not once, can I ever remember having trouble seeing clearly out of a full-face. The front opening is large - what direction do you think you're going to have trouble seeing?

Periphial vision , to me, seems to be hindered by the full -face. I don't know, maybe it's just in my head. Maybe it's the shield - I use to have a boat and never liked driving while sitting behind the windshield - I always stood on one knee in my seat or sat on the back of my seat in order to get my head above the windshield. I felt I could see better in that position. My head was somewhat constantly on a swivel - looking around at what was behind me or coming at me from the sides - and that seems to be VERY important for bike riding and for some reason I feel the full-face doesn't allow that field of vision.

I like the protection of the full-face - I am fond of the jaw I have and want to keep it if I were to have an accident.

Maybe I just have to get use to it and trust the field of vision is the same whether full-face or 3/4. It is isn't it?

thanks for opinions
