Ok well I bought a used 2008 Ninja 250R with 2280 miles on it for 4k, Ill be getting it Thursday! And Im taking the MSF course on the 13th and 14th so wont be riding it till then. Probably be picking up a pair of boots and a dark smoke visor for my helmet pretty soon too. I decided to go with the 250 because I do want to be a better rider and be a safe one. Thank you all for the advice, maybe ill get a 650 after a year or two

Good for you. I hope you got a lot out of the course. I know I did. I am also glad you opted for the 250 and ride it for at least a year.
I took the MSF course on a 250 and afterwards on my wifes birthday (did I catch hell for that
) bought my first bike. It was an S40, a 652 cc Suzuki. It being larger has a larger turn radius. I almost ran out of room on a practice U turn near my home. I learned a lot from that almost drop. There are major differences between the handling of different motorcycles. Six months later I moved to a 852 CC Boulevard C50T. That is my current bike.
Have fun and be safe.

I will say the MSF is a great course to take. I did a little bit too big of a jump for my first bike, but not as much as a dealer wanted me to. I purchased a 1982 Yamaha XV920 with 5500 original miles on it. Nice power, not too much, yet. Unfortunately I live in northern Illinois, so I only got a couple more weeks of riding before the snow will start flying here!! Have fun in the MSF, they are a good way to start.
