Since the last time I posted about riding:
I took a class that was offered by a police dept and started riding to work. The bike had to be in the shop again, but is out and is working beautifully now.
I'm now riding it to work regularly. I'm hitting speeds of (are you ready for this) a whole 60mph!
I still get nervous around curves (and they're not sharp ones) but I'm doing alright. It's taking me about an hour to go 40 miles (I do have to go back roads and avoid the local bypass).

I'm loving it. I'm going to have to go get the license soon because it's starting be dark when I get off of work in the morning. I'm okay because by the time I start the bike and let it warm up it's light, but not for much longer. Can anyone tell me what's involved in a license in GA?

Also, can anyone tell me about painting a bike?

I love it! It feels so good to be riding and free!

It's probably the same as my situation in Pennsylvania--with a learner's permist, one cannot ride after sundown or carry passengers. There are no other restrictions.

In Ohio you can ride alone with a learner's permit if you wear a helmet and don't go on freeways, can't ride after dark or carry passangers.

You can ride for a year on a permit and then renew it for another year.

In GA you can either take the MSF BRC and take your certificate to the DMV and they will give you a motorcycle license on the spot or you will have to take a road test on your own bike at the DMV if you don't do the MSF. A written test for just the permit.

Pennsylvania had unlimited renewal of learner's permits. My MSF instructor told me they are changing that to three years because there were people who had been riding on permits for 20 years.

We don't have the freeway restriction. I restrict myself from them except on Sunday mornings when there are few trucks.

I did kind of the opposite--I went to the DVM and took the test before I was really ready. Had a panic attack and totally tubed it. Between that and failing the BRC right when I started riding, I now have two flunks. One more and I have to get a new permit. I'm scheduled to go back to the DVM and re-take the test next week. It should work this time: I've ridden an addition 3K miles since my last flunk, and passed the ERC.

I didn't know anyone who rode either.

I had wanted my license a couple of times over the years - but the requirement to ride with someone stopped me because I would have had no way to practice - and no way to get a bike to the DMV test.

I never went to a dealer - just kind of felt it was impossible to get a license under those rules (maybe if I'd been more determined I would have). So, I never knew about the scooter rentals mini-training and taking the test for a license. I never knew about the MSF or anything like that.

Checked in to riding again in recent times and found out about the MSF BRC and stuff and got my license.
