Suzuki C50 started and then died.

#1 Unread post by duffyclown »

I have an 06 Suzuki C50 that has been running great. I got on this am and started it up with no issues. Then while the bike was warming up, the engine quit and the bike will not restart. No lights come on either. I believe I smelled a little burn odor just before the bike died. It was washed and dried yesterday but not started until this morning. Any ideas on what it might be?

Sounds like some electrical troubleshooting is in order. Check all the fuses and connections for signs of frying if you smelled burning electrical components. Check your battery voltage and connections. and anything else you can see while poking around. This may involve touching parts of the bike that are not on the handlebars.

'It started then it stopped' is a little hard to diagnose on a screen, but good luck with it, eh.

SUZUKI C50 STARTING PROBLEMS

#3 Unread post by duffyclown »

The main fuse was blown and after replacing it the bike started up and ran all the way to work. When I turned off the bike, and then went to restart it, the bike would not start again. This time, my idiot lights on the speedometer indicator showed FI which I know stood for Fuel Injector. I rest the ECM (a recommendation from someone else), but no go, the bike will turn over, but not start now. All other fuses appear to be good.

Check to see if it has spark, I suspect it doesn't, and further suspect that the computer may be acting up. If it does have spark, then it's likely a fuel delivery problem, and that probably leads back to the computer too. You may have to get a dealer to test the computer to see if it's the cause. Whatever blew the main fuse the first time, could have sent stray voltage through the brainbox.

Did you discover why the main fuse blew out in the first place? That fault could still be holding you out.

No, I have not found out what caused it to blow the fuse, but have taken it to a shop for repair. I tore the bike apart and could not find any shorts or wire breaks, yet the FI kept appearing, so I persumed it was either the computer or a sensor that was beyond my level of expertise.

Thanks for the ideas!
