Let's see....Hwy# 17....speed limit is what???? 90? Going 140 in a 90 zone is asking for trouble....both of you.

Doing 90 on 17 is begging for even more trouble.......even the big rigs fly down it at 100 to 110. If you are planning of doing 90 on 17 on a bike, you best ride on the hard shoulder, otherwise someone is going to be driving up your exhaust pipe. I commute that road everyday, believe me, 90 ain't safe on it.


Actually, I was once following behind a cop car who was doing 100 KPH and I got tired of following him, so I dropped down a gear and blew by him at 130......and I didn't get a ticket or pulled over......ask me how.

Noticed he had Washington State plate, it was a Watcom Country Copper heading to patrol Point Roberts, well out of his jurisdiction.

here in michigan any cop can pull you over no matter what jurisdiction they are in.

That may well be, however I doubt a Michigan Copper has much pull or authority up in Ontario. Sorry Blues, but that is incorrect. Although both Britain and Spain both toyed with colonizing Alaska, it was in fact part of Imperial Russia by a deed held by the Russian Alaska Company, sort of like the way Rupertsland was held by the HBC's Royal Charter. In 1867, Russia sold Alaska to the US for the princely sum of US$7.2 Million Dollar or approximately US$90,750,000 in 2005 money. A hell of a good bargain even by todays standards, although at the time the purchase was known as Sewards Folly, after US Sec. of State William Seward who brokered the deal. At the time, Russia needed cash and wanted to keep its North American holdings out of British hands.

There was a border dispute between Canada and the US in regards to the so-called Alaskan Pan Handle which was resolved in 1903 in favour of the US mainly due to old Russian maps detailing the extend of their Alaskan holdings at the time of the sale.
