Hi all,
I'm new here & have a 1981 xj 650 maxim. I have a cold starting problem. When I try & start it after its been sitting overnite is when the problem occurs. When I push the starter button sometimes it will not do anything, after pushing it again it will engage the starter but its very slow turning, then sometimes it spins fast like it should. The battery checks good, and after warming it will start with just a touch of the starter button. I'm not a mechanic & it is driving me nuts, any help would be greatly appriciated, I've checked all connections & they seem o.k. I'm really getting to the point of screaming.......help please????? & thanks in advance.

I think your starter solenoid is going bad. Or maybe the starter button has corrosion on it. Check all the electrical connectors for corrosion.

Sometimes that kind of thing just happens with older bikes. It becomes part of the character of that bike.
